Eavestrough Repair & Replacement
Eavestrough repair, replacement and seamless eavestroughs for homes in Calgary and area, including downspouts and hail or wind damage. Insurance claims welcome.
Did you know that hail and wind can damage your eavestroughs, and that dents on them are often the first sign of roof damage?
Eavestroughs
Your eavestroughs (gutters) collect rainwater and melting snow from the roof and carry it to the downspouts, away from your siding and foundation. When they are damaged in wind and hail storms, sag or leak at the seams, water spills where it should not and can lead to rotted fascia, a wet basement and foundation problems.
Downspouts
Downspouts carry that water down to the ground. A crushed, clogged or disconnected downspout, or one that empties right beside the house, sends water back toward the foundation. Extensions move it a safe distance away.
Seamless eavestroughs
Seamless aluminum eavestroughs are the most popular choice for Calgary homes. They are made to the length of each run, so there are joints only at corners and outlets, and fewer joints means fewer leaks.
Calgary weather
Chinooks melt snow on the roof, then it refreezes in the cold eavestroughs overnight. That ice adds weight, pulls on the hangers and can build into ice dams that push water under the shingles. Hail dents thin aluminum, and strong winds can pull a loose run right off the house.
Soffit and fascia
Your eavestroughs hang on the fascia board, and the soffit underneath vents your attic. If the fascia is soft or rotted, even new eavestroughs will not stay put. We repair and replace both. See our soffit and fascia repair page for details.
Total Exteriors routinely repairs and replaces eavestroughs and downspouts damaged in wind and hail storms.

Signs You Need Eavestrough Repair
- Sagging sections or eavestroughs pulling away from the house
- Leaks or drips at seams, corners and end caps
- Water spilling over the edge in a normal rain
- Dents and dings after a hailstorm, or crushed downspouts
- Heavy ice build-up and long icicles along the eaves in winter
- Pooling water, washed-out soil or a damp basement along the foundation
- Peeling paint, stains or soft wood on the fascia behind the eavestrough
Hail Damage to Eavestroughs
Eavestroughs and downspouts are soft metal, so they are often the first place hail damage shows. Dents on them are a useful clue that the roof above may be damaged too. Our HAAG-certified inspectors check both, and we supply the photos and reports insurance adjusters look for. Wind is the other big threat: it can lift eavestroughs off the house, especially where the fascia behind them is already soft. Repair or Replace Your Eavestroughs?
Repair makes sense for isolated problems: resealing a leaking seam, re-hanging a sagging section or replacing a damaged downspout.
Replacement is usually the better value when you see several signs at once, widespread hail dents, or older sectional eavestroughs that leak at every joint. If you are already planning a new roof, it often makes sense to replace the eavestroughs at the same time. Our guide to eavestrough replacement in Calgary covers the signs, lifespan and cost factors in more detail.
Our Eavestrough Process
1. Inspection
We look at the eavestroughs, downspouts, fascia and roof edge, and take photos of any damage.
2. Clear quote
You get a written scope covering what needs repair and what needs replacing.
3. Insurance or private work
For storm damage we work with your adjuster; for wear and tear it is a simple private job.
4. Installation
We remove damaged material, fix any soft fascia, then install eavestroughs and downspouts with proper slope so water drains away from the foundation.
5. Clean-up
Old material and debris are hauled away and the site is left tidy.
Soffit and Fascia Repair
Eavestroughs are only as solid as the fascia they hang on. If the fascia board behind them is rotted, or the soffit under the overhang is loose, cracked or blocking attic airflow, we fix it at the same time. For signs of damage, materials and attic ventilation, see our dedicated page on soffit and fascia repair in Calgary.
Areas We Serve
We repair and install eavestroughs throughout Calgary and nearby communities. See our local pages for eavestrough repair in Chestermere, Cochrane and Airdrie. Choose your area for local details.
Eavestrough FAQ
Are eavestroughs and gutters the same thing?
Yes. Eavestrough is the common Canadian name for the gutters that run along the edge of the roof. Downspouts are the vertical pipes that carry the water down to the ground.
How long do eavestroughs last in Calgary?
Most last 20 to 30 years, but freeze–thaw cycles, hail and heavy snow can shorten that. Regular cleaning and fixing small leaks early helps them last longer.
Can a sagging eavestrough be repaired?
Often, yes. If the eavestrough itself is sound, we re-hang it with new hangers and reset the slope. If the fascia board behind it is rotted, that board is repaired first so the fasteners have something solid to hold.
What size eavestroughs do I need?
Five-inch eavestroughs are standard on most homes. Six-inch eavestroughs handle larger roofs and heavier water flow. We size them during the inspection.
Does home insurance cover hail-damaged eavestroughs?
Damage from an insured event like hail or wind is often covered, depending on your policy. We document the damage and work with your adjuster. You can report a claim through us.
