Window and Door Repair and Replacement in Calgary
Total Exteriors inspects, repairs and replaces exterior windows and doors on homes in Calgary, Airdrie, Cochrane, Chestermere and Rocky View County. Much of our window and door work follows hail and wind storms, but we also replace worn, drafty or failing units as private work. Because we handle siding, stucco and trim as well, we can repair the wall and flashing around a window or door properly instead of leaving that to another trade.
Signs Your Windows or Doors Need Attention
Calgary’s mix of summer hail, chinook freeze–thaw cycles and long cold winters is tough on windows and doors. Watch for:
- Cracked or broken glass, or dents and chips on frames, sashes and door slabs after a hailstorm
- Torn or punctured window screens
- Fog or condensation between the panes, which means the seal has failed
- Drafts around closed windows and doors, or frost build-up on the inside in winter
- Windows that stick, won’t lock, or doors that drag and no longer latch
- Soft or rotting frames, water stains or peeling paint around the opening
- Rising heating bills with no change in how you use your home
Our guide to the signs you need new windows in Calgary goes through each of these in more detail.
Repair or Replace?
Repair is usually right for a single failed part on a window or door that is otherwise sound: worn weatherstripping, broken hardware or locks, a damaged screen, or exterior trim and capping dented by hail.
Replacement is the better choice when the sealed glass unit has failed, the frame is rotting or cracked, or several problems show up at once. Most windows last 15 to 25 years, and Calgary’s climate tends to push them toward the shorter end. New energy-efficient windows and well-sealed doors also cut drafts and heat loss through our long winters.
Our Window and Door Process
1. Inspection
We check each window and exterior door, inside and out, along with the surrounding siding, trim and flashing.
2. Estimate
You get a clear estimate of what needs repair and what needs replacing.
3. Insurance or private work
For storm damage we prepare the reports and photos your insurer needs; otherwise it is a straightforward private job.
4. Installation
Damaged units are removed, the opening is checked for moisture damage, and new windows or doors are installed, insulated, sealed and flashed.
5. Finishing and clean-up
Trim and exterior finishes are completed, and we clean up and haul away old material.
Hail and Wind Damage to Windows and Doors
Calgary sits in Canada’s hail alley, and hail damage to windows is easy to underestimate. Beyond broken glass, hail splits vinyl frames, dents aluminum capping, shreds screens and chips painted doors and garage doors. Wind can drive debris through glass and rack doors out of alignment. Our HAAG-certified inspectors document all of it so your claim reflects the full damage. If glass is broken, keep people and pets away from it and cover the opening if you can do so safely. For after-hours board-up, call our emergency call-out service.

Areas We Serve
We work on windows and doors across Calgary and nearby communities. Chestermere and Airdrie homes take the same summer hail as Calgary, and acreage homes in Rocky View County often face wind with little shelter. Choose your area for local details.
Windows and Doors FAQ
Can you replace only the glass instead of the whole window?
Sometimes. If the frame is in good shape and only the sealed glass unit is damaged, replacing the glass can be an option. If the frame is cracked or the window is old, a full replacement is usually better value.
Does insurance cover hail-damaged windows and doors?
Damage from an insured event such as hail or wind is often covered, depending on your policy. We provide the reports and pictures adjusters look for at no extra cost. You can report a claim through us.
Is fog between the panes a reason to replace the window?
Yes. Condensation between the panes means the seal has failed and the insulating gas has escaped. That part can’t be fixed by cleaning or resealing.
Can windows and doors be replaced in winter?
Often, yes. Openings are typically replaced one at a time and closed up quickly, so the house is not left open to the cold for long. Severe cold snaps may push work back a few days.
