Eavestrough Repair & Replacement in Airdrie

Airdrie has grown quickly along the QEII north of Calgary, and many of its homes went up with builder-installed eavestroughs and downspouts that were sized and placed to a budget. Years later, those systems are meeting open-prairie wind, regular summer hail and chinook freeze–thaw — and the weak spots show up as leaking corners, short downspouts and water sitting against the foundation.

Total Exteriors repairs and replaces eavestroughs across Airdrie, from resealing a few joints to a full seamless aluminum system after a hailstorm. As roofers, we check the roof edge, fascia and soffit at the same time, and we work directly with your insurer when storm damage is the cause.

Airdrie Eavestrough Services for Newer and Established Homes

Many Airdrie homes still have their original eavestroughs, and the same problems turn up from street to street: corners that drip, downspouts that empty right beside the house, and troughs too small for the roof above them. We work across the city, from Kings Heights and Coopers Crossing to Sagewood, Windsong and the newest communities.

Our Airdrie eavestrough services include:

Resealing leaking corners, seams and end caps

Upgrading builder-grade troughs to seamless aluminum

Adding or relocating downspouts to split heavy runoff

Downspout extensions away from foundations and window wells

Re-sloping troughs that hold standing water

Hail damage replacement with full insurance documentation

When fascia or soffit is damaged behind the eavestrough, we fix that as part of the same job — see soffit and fascia. Our main eavestrough page has more on the service.

Hail, Wind and Builder Shortcuts: Why Airdrie Eavestroughs Fail

Large hailstones scattered across an asphalt shingle roof under storm clouds

Airdrie sits on open prairie with little to break the wind or the storms crossing the Calgary region, and hail dents thin aluminum troughs and downspouts quickly. On newer homes we also find the shortcuts that came with fast construction: too few downspouts, loose hangers and outlets that do not line up with the grading.

The Airdrie eavestrough problems we fix most often:

Leaking mitres and end caps on builder-installed systems

Downspouts emptying beside the foundation

Often the fix is targeted: an extra downspout, resealed corners and a few new hangers. When the troughs are dented or undersized along most of the house, replacement is better value — our eavestrough replacement guide walks through the signs.

Downspouts and Grading Around Airdrie Foundations

On newer homes the soil around the foundation often settles for several years after construction, and the ground that once sloped away can end up sloping back toward the walls. Combine that with a short downspout and every storm sends water to the basement:

Extensions that carry water past the settled backfill zone

Downspouts kept clear of window wells and side-yard walkways

Checks that outlets line up with the lot’s drainage

Clear advice on settled soil that needs regrading

We will also tell you if water from your downspouts is being sent toward a neighbour’s yard — in tight side yards that is a common source of friction, and an easy one to fix. For our other work in the city, see Airdrie exterior services.

Hail Damage to Airdrie Eavestroughs and Insurance Claims

Airdrie sees the same summer hail as north Calgary, and eavestroughs are often the first place it shows. Dented troughs are a useful sign that the roof, siding and window frames were hit as well. Our HAAG-certified inspectors document the whole exterior, give your adjuster a written scope and meet them on site, so the eavestroughs are not left off the claim. If the roof was damaged too, see roofing in Airdrie and Airdrie hail damage restoration.

Hail that dents troughs often cracks siding and chips painted fascia and trim on the same wall, so see our Airdrie siding and exterior painting in Airdrie pages too. If an overflowing eavestrough has already rotted deck boards or stained a fence, our Airdrie decks and fences page covers the repair.

Signs Your Airdrie Eavestroughs Need Attention

Check these after the next heavy rain:

  • Water spilling over the front edge instead of the downspout
  • Drips at inside and outside corners
  • Standing water left in the trough a day later
  • Dents or dimples along the front face after hail
  • Damp soil, efflorescence or a wet basement wall below a downspout

Any one of these is worth a look before winter, when ice turns a small drainage problem into a heavy, sagging one.

How We Handle Your Airdrie Eavestrough Job

You will know where things stand at every stage:

  1. An inspection of the troughs, downspouts, roof edge and grading
  2. A written repair-or-replace recommendation and quote
  3. Claim photos and scope for your adjuster when hail is involved
  4. Old troughs removed, fascia checked, new runs hung and sloped
  5. Downspouts and extensions installed, flow tested, site cleaned

Most work is booked between late spring and fall, but storm damage that leaves troughs hanging gets priority. Call our 24/7 line below.

Airdrie Eavestrough Frequently Asked Questions

Why do the eavestroughs on my newer Airdrie home leak at the corners?

Corners and end caps are the joints on any eavestrough system, and the sealant used at installation often dries out and shrinks within a few years. Resealing can fix it; if many joints are failing, seamless troughs remove most of them.

Do I need more downspouts?

If water spills over the edge in a normal rain even when the troughs are clean, often yes. A long run or a large roof draining to one outlet overwhelms it, and an extra downspout splits the load.

Is eavestrough replacement worth it on a newer home?

Not always. Many newer systems only need resealing, re-sloping and better downspouts. Replacement makes sense when hail has dented most of the runs or the troughs are too small for the roof.

How far should downspouts drain from the house?

Far enough that water lands on ground sloping away from the foundation, past the settled backfill along the walls. Extensions are an inexpensive way to get there.

Will insurance cover hail damage to my eavestroughs?

Hail and wind damage from an insured event is often covered, depending on your policy. We document the damage with photos and measurements and meet your adjuster. You can report a claim through us.
