Exterior Painting

Exterior house painting in Calgary, Cochrane, Airdrie and area, from full repaints of siding, trim and stucco to refinishing after hail and wind damage. We use high quality exterior paints suited to Alberta weather.

Our Total Exteriors team provides quality exterior painting for homes and commercial buildings, whether you want a fresh new colour or need to repair wind and hail damage.

Total Exteriors is synonymous with quality and because of this we use high quality interior and exterior paints for all of our residential or commercial painting projects.

Not all hail damage is found on the roof. Many building materials can be damaged by hail. Painted surfaces such as siding, decks, fences, fascia, window trim and more.

Damage to items other than the roof is called “collateral damage” by many but if left unattended it can cause an undesirable look to your property.

Total Exteriors provides a full service, one-stop shop to repair any and all exterior damages caused by hail or wind. We have qualified painters who will repair and refinish the exterior parts of your home such as siding and trim, windows, doors, window well covers, and any other building components that are damaged by hail.

Exterior House Painting in Calgary, Cochrane and Airdrie

Total Exteriors has been working on Calgary home exteriors since 2014. Our painters refinish siding, trim, fascia, soffits, front doors, garage doors, window frames, stucco, decks and fences, and we take on both full repaints and targeted repairs. Because we also install and repair roofing, siding, stucco, eavestroughs and soffit and fascia, we can fix the surface underneath before we paint it instead of painting over a problem.

We paint homes and commercial buildings across Calgary and nearby communities, including Cochrane, Airdrie, Chestermere and Rocky View County.

Signs Your Home’s Exterior Needs Painting

Calgary is hard on paint. Strong high-altitude sun, dry air, chinook freeze–thaw swings in the middle of winter and summer hail all break down a paint film faster than in milder climates. Watch for:

  • Peeling, flaking or blistering paint, especially on south- and west-facing walls
  • Chalky residue that rubs off on your hand, a sign the finish has broken down
  • Faded or patchy colour, or touch-ups that no longer match
  • Cracked or shrunken caulking around windows, doors and trim
  • Bare wood showing on fascia, trim, deck rails or fence boards
  • Chips, dents or spatter marks on siding, trim and garage doors after a hailstorm

Bare wood is the one to act on quickly. Once moisture gets in, freeze–thaw cycles open the grain and rot follows.

Repaint, Repair or Replace?

Paint protects and finishes a surface, but it can’t fix one that has failed. During our inspection we look at the material under the paint and recommend one of three paths:

  • Repaint when the surface is sound and the problem is weathering, fading or light chipping.
  • Repair, then paint when you have isolated soft wood, cracked stucco or a few damaged boards or panels. We replace those sections, prime and paint so everything matches.
  • Replace when rot, cracking or hail damage is widespread. New HardiBoard siding, fascia or trim is often better value than repainting a failing surface. Our stucco repair vs. replacement guide walks through the same decision for stucco homes.

Our Exterior Painting Process

  1. Inspection and colour consult. We walk the exterior, note any damage and help you choose colours and sheen.
  2. Written quote. The surfaces, prep work and products are listed clearly.
  3. Insurance or private work. If the damage came from hail or wind, we document it for your insurer. Otherwise it is a straightforward private job.
  4. Prep. Washing, scraping, sanding, caulking, priming bare areas and protecting windows, roofing and landscaping.
  5. Painting. High quality exterior paint, applied when temperature and weather suit the product.
  6. Clean-up and walkthrough. We remove masking and debris and review the finished work with you.

Most exterior painting in Calgary happens from late spring to early fall. Paint needs dry surfaces and temperatures above the manufacturer’s minimum, so we schedule around the weather rather than rushing a coat on a cold or wet day.

Painting After Hail and Wind Damage

Calgary sits in Canada’s hail alley, and not all hail damage is on the roof. Hail chips and dents painted siding, fascia, trim, doors, window frames, window well covers, decks and fences. Insurers often call this “collateral damage,” and it is easy to miss when everyone is focused on the shingles. Our HAAG-certified inspectors check the whole exterior, and we provide the photos and reports adjusters look for.

Exterior Painting Across Calgary and Area

We serve Calgary, Cochrane, Airdrie, Chestermere, Crossfield, Irricana, Beiseker and Rocky View County. In Cochrane, homes in the Bow Valley take strong westerly winds and afternoon sun that wear out west-facing paint first. Airdrie and Chestermere see the same summer hail as Calgary, so trim and siding touch-ups after a storm are common there too. See our local pages for exterior painting in Cochrane, Airdrie and Chestermere.

Exterior Painting FAQ

When is the best time to paint a house exterior in Calgary?

Usually late spring through early fall, on dry days when daytime and overnight temperatures stay above the paint manufacturer’s minimum. Early booking helps, since the season is short.

Do you paint stucco, siding and trim?

Yes. We paint wood, fibre cement, aluminum and stucco surfaces, along with fascia, soffits, doors, garage doors and window frames. Vinyl siding is usually replaced rather than painted.

Will insurance pay to repaint hail-damaged siding or trim?

If the damage was caused by an insured event such as hail or wind, refinishing is often part of the claim. Coverage depends on your policy, so we document the damage and work with your adjuster. You can report a claim through us to get started.

Do you only do storm repairs?

No. We also take on private painting work for homeowners who simply want a fresh colour, better curb appeal or a home ready to sell, with no insurance claim involved.

Can you paint or stain my deck and fence?

Yes. We refinish decks and fences, and repair or replace damaged boards first. See our decks and fences page.
